PITTSBURG, Kan. — Despite the many events in the Pittsburg area Saturday, patrons still filled Broadway and celebrated community and creativity during the Fall Pittsburg ArtWalk.
There was no shortage of sights, sounds, and smells during the 20th anniversary of the biannual art event. Princesses, superheroes, pop stars and butterflies wandered the street delighting both children and adults, and when visitors weren’t sampling cuisine or browsing the booths of artists, crafters and local organizations, crowds were entertained by musicians both at Europe Park and the main stage at 6th and Broadway. Actors and dancers also showcased their skills at the main stage, while poets and writers read their work at TJ Lelands.
A ribbon cutting commemorated the occasion along with the community mural that highlighted the history of the event and the city.
The Pittsburg Arts Council and Artist Jenna Spencer, who designed the mural, thanked the community for their input and involvement. The council also thanked the numerous people who worked behind the scenes to make the ArtWalk a success.
Triple Threat Threeatrics invited attendees to decorate backdrops the group will use for their upcoming production of “In the Heights.”
Once again, there was no shortage of joy and magic during the Pittsburg ArtWalk.
“ArtWalk brings people to the heart of Pittsburg, supports artistic commerce, gives emerging artists and musicians a place to begin, connects neighbors and fosters creativity,” the Pittsburg Arts Council stated. “Some ArtWalks are enormous, some smaller. Some have perfect weather—and some make us question outdoor events in Kansas. But every ArtWalk matters. Long after the tents come down, those individual experiences remain. That is the legacy of Pittsburg ArtWalk—20 years of making space for art, creativity & each other. Thank you for continuing to show up.”
