Every Tuesday. Doors open at 5 p.m. Public is welcome. Early Bird starts at 6:30 p.m. High Roller Black Out will pay $1,200 for 60 numbers. Progressive Black Out pays $425 for 56 numbers. If no one wins Progressive Black Out, $25 is added to the jackpot.

Girard Board of Education will meet at the Board of Education Office in Girard at 5:30 p.m. every second Thursday of the month.

Talking Heads Discussion Group

The Talking Heads study and dialogue group will meet at 9 a.m. every Friday morning at Pittsburg Public Library. Using The Great Courses Series from The Teaching Company, participants watch a 30-minute DVD lecture followed by group discussion.

Southeast Kansas Recycling

The SEKR tunnel will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for drop-off of recyclables, to include cardboard, boxes/brown paper inside, aluminum cans, tin cans, #1 plastics, newsprint, white copy paper, textiles, and lead acid batteries. Fee is $10/car or become a member and get 1 free tunnel/month. Card or cash accepted. Sign up to volunteer, and you can bring recyclables at no charge. Ask for info at the tunnel.

AFG: Collaborative Painting w/ Debbie Southard

2 to 4 p.m.; $30 fee; Ages 14+; Class size of 12 — Gallery artists recently did an art collaboration with many of our members participating. These paintings are a fundraiser ($50 donation) to help with our expenses. This was so much fun to do!

The Collaborative Painting workshop is for everyone who would enjoy this process as well. Canvas, paint, and brushes will be supplies, but if you are welcome to bring your own favorite brush and paint. We will begin to paint, which will be timed. We will pass the canvas to the next person. When it comes back around to you, you finish it however you wish. Come join the fun, the more the merrier!

SUNDAY, JUNE 14

AFG: Japanese Stab-Bound Books w/Rosemary Stapleton

1 to 3 p.m.; $40 fee; Ages 16+; Class size of 8 — Learn how to make four varieties of stab-bound books: traditional, noble, hemp leaf, and tortoise shell bindings. You’ll finish with four small books that can be used as sketchbooks, planners, photo albums, or whatever your heart desires!
