The Pittsburg Post 64 Junior Silverbacks opened their season in style Wednesday night by sweeping Uniontown at Al Ortolani Field, 12-2 and 8-2.
Tate Renn propelled the younger Silverbacks in the opener with two-run singles during the second and third, helping Post 64 plate seven runs in the third.
Brooks Walker also hit a two-run triple, August Amershek grounded out to score a run and Drake Boulware and Luke Jones each worked bases-loaded walks.
Walker matched Renn in RBI, since his two-run single opened the scoring in the first.
Renn stole two bases and the Silverbacks worked nine walks against Uniontown pitching, including three against starter Julius Rodriguez, who allowed seven runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings.
Drake Wilcox earned the win and he allowed no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks over three innings. Quinton Bruning pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Silverbacks completed the sweep with the help of three runs in the first and a strong pitching performance from Lexton Holloway.
Bruning and Wilcox hit RBI singles in the first, and Holloway earned the win and he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
Wilcox and Amershek each led the Silverbacks with two hits and Wilcox drove in two runs. Post 64 stole eight bases in the game.
The younger Silverbacks played two Friday against the SEK Blue Sox and E3 at the LaRoche Baseball Complex and then play two more Saturday against Kansas Curve West and Ozark at Lions Field during a four-day showcase in Fort Scott.
